Day 14 – Coral Pink Sand Dunes

Megan’s Take

Today was a travel day from Page AZ to Hurricane UT. En route, we stopped at a rock shop called Nature’s Showcase in Kanab UT for treasures. I could have spent all day looking at the various rocks and art, but I managed to get almost an hour from Phil as he wrangled the kids in the parking lot. The woman working in the shop told me they create all the sandstone pieces for the area and ship them far and wide. I will definitely come back when we’re in the area again someday.

Next we made it to Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. It was hot, but we put on our desert gear and checked out the dunes. They are definitely colorful – more like an orange in my opinion.

We walked a bit on the dunes, and then I sat with the kids while they made castles out of sticks and rocks.

If it had been cooler, we would have stayed longer, but at 90 degrees, we were ready to go after an hour or so. I don’t typically collect anything from parks, but a large amount of sand from my shoes ended up in a dust pan in the camper, which is now preserved in a Ziploc bag.

Tonight we checked into the Zion Jellystone Park in Hurricane UT. It is like the Disneyland of campgrounds with a big waterpark that includes a water playground/splash area, large water slides, a lazy river, and two swimming pools.

The kids were SO excited about checking into a campground with a waterpark.

This will be peak fun for them.

Phil’s Take

The drive this morning was beautiful. We managed to get some shots from the truck on the way.

Even the views outside the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park were cool. The rock looked like it was painted with a brush.

The descent into Hurricane looked a bit like Mesa Verde, but the temperature kept climbing all the way to a peak of 107F.

Once we reached the campground, Megan took the kids to the water park as I worked on issues on the camper. At some point I’ll explain what happened, but it’s late and I’m tired from being underneath the trailer in what feels like the gates of hell.

Here’s the pictures from today.
