Day 13 – Glen Canyon NRA

Phil’s Take

Megan is taking the day off, so it’s just me posting today.

Today was partly a travel day and partly to see Horseshoe Bend and Glen Canyon Dam in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The travel from the campground in Grand Canyon took us past parts of Grand Canyon we didn’t get a good view of on our way in. After we left the park via the east exit, we passed the portions carved by the Little Colorado River that were beautiful from the road.

Along the horrible rough road that is US 89, we stopped at a roadside vendor at Antelope Pass so that Megan could shop for what seemed like an hour. I managed to capture the following panorama of the valley we were overlooking while we waited.

We then grabbed lunch and sights at Horseshoe Bend. The view lives up to the hype.

We have definitely found a way to get the kids to walk the whole way, but it does take some patience and rocks along the path for them to walk on. I guess they enjoy the challenge of uneven terrain.

On our way into Glen Canyon NRA, Emmett fell asleep, and since we were only a few minutes from the campground, we stopped at an overlook to let him rest. I grabbed a good view of Lake Powell just behind the dam.

After dropping the camper at the campground, we hit up the visitor center for our passport stamp and so Emilia could earn her Junior Ranger badge. It offers a great view of the dam.

We got dinner and ice cream in town after that and made one more stop at an overlook before calling it a day.

Megan took the kids for a bike ride

while I replaced the 7 prong plug in the camper to hopefully fix some more connectivity issues. I will fix these brake issues, even if it means rewiring the whole trailer brake system.

Here’s all of the pictures from today. It was a little light due to the traveling.
