Day 12 – Grand Canyon National Park, Part 2

Megan’s Take

Phil and I agreed that 1.5 days (2 nights) probably would have been enough to see the Grand Canyon National Park with young children, since there are a lot of trails we wouldn’t do with them. We have 2.5 days (3 nights) here, though, so we made the most of the morning. We hiked most of the rim trail from Grand Canyon Village to the western point, Hermit’s Rest.

We (Phil) pushed the kids in a wagon and jumped on the shuttle to bypass a section of the rim trail that is not paved. The views were beautiful,

and one cool highlight is that we saw a mother mule deer with her fawn. The fawn was probably a couple weeks old and was still very wobbly in following its mother.

The rest of the day was mostly just time to let the kids rest at the campground, do laundry, cook dinner, and take a breather.

Phil’s Take

I completely agree that one does not need this much time here unless you’re doing significantly more hiking or going to the other side. The view is still fantastic, so here’s another panorama.

One thing that was crazy was when I went to get gas so we could head out in the morning. Fuel prices were nearly $5/gallon, a whole $1.70 more than stations east of the park where we’re headed, so I opted to get the minimum. That would have cost me over $150 for the tank. Nothing like having a monopoly, being the only gas station near the park. I also found it ironic the message above the trash can. I think you already have California prices there folks.

As always, here’s the gallery for the day.
