Devil’s Tower

Today was mainly a travel and church day. We started off with church at 8:00 AM and then drove for a few hours to reach Devil’s Tower by about 12:30 or so. The featured image above is a view of Devil’s Tower from the road as we were nearing it.

We hiked a couple of trails around the tower, starting with the main paved trail, which not only gave us some closer views of Devil’s Tower itself, but also the surrounding landscape, as seen in this panorama.

Another of the hikes started near a sculpture done by a Japanese artist, which was put here because of the religious importance of the site. Here’s the sculpture with the tower in the background.

The trail we were taking took us into the prairie dog town located near the entrance to the park, so of course we saw some prairie dogs.

We also saw some deer along this trail, too!

We ate dinner and called an early night so we could get an early start in the morning. Before bed though, I noticed the movie they play at this KOA every night for free, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, which apparently was filmed at the campground. We need to watch that in a better setting since we didn’t have time and the screen wasn’t really that large.
